But what is most certainly my battle is how my education suffers when the graduate students who lead my sections and give me feedback have little or no institutional voice in how educational decisions are made.

So the administration's expensive and unrelenting fight against relatively powerless graduate students is really a message to the entire academy. Who's guilty of the dirty politics now? The implication for undergraduates is alarming. Just think of the possibilities if all the money the administration is funneling into its anti-GESO campaign was instead spent on, say, paid teacher training or (dare I say it) hiring more tenure-track professors.

Shalini's editorial shifts the discourse in the campus press enormously and is a dope prelude to a massive undergrad presence at tomorrow's pay equity action.

Given how horiible on GESO every single member of this "short list" for the next Yale College dean is, (Cott and Butler's union busting antics are particularly notorious, which in Cott's case is sad, cause her scholarship is supposed to be really important and it's a shame to see respected feminist scholars use the kind of rhetoric and tactics she employed back in '95-'96 against organizations fighting for things like dependent health care, child care, and increased tenuring and hiring of women faculty) it's clear that the University understands the importance of keeping us undergrads under control. It's time to make that a very difficult endeavor.

Disclaimer: (actually, i don't know much about Bailyn, but given that he was on the Brodhead Committee, and given his attempts to misrepresent our criticisms of the exploitation of transient teachers and teaching in the YDN, we can extrapolate that he's probably not a big fan.
