Phoebe and
Josh pretty much said what i was gonna say about DeStefano's
disgusting sell-out of the bank campaign and thousands of New Haven residents, as well as the more heartening news -- the
kick ass GESO letter that appeared in today's YDN. All that's really left for me to do is congratulate
The Honorable Ben Healey, chairman of the BOA's legislation committee. (Tell the mayor and Peyton Patterson what they can do with their gag order.) I suppose i ought to also try to figure out the YDN's continuing
obsession with the policing of the dining hall and the dangers that this space where Yale's dependency upon New Haven becomes clear represents to their elitist and colonial constructions of postmodern urban spaces.
Note to Richard Levin: In response to your telling the Pan-Ethnic Coalition that you don't care if the bodies who advise you represent student concerns, saying that you don't want to meet with the Pan Ethnic Coalition because then you might have to actually talk to students, repeatedly reneging on your promises of holding open forums, that sole and hard won victory of the anti-sweatshop movement on this campus, refusing to discuss a fair process with GESO, disclose investments, or in myriad other ways work with students, workers, and the community to make yale and new haven better, - in the words of the negotiating committees for Locals 34 and 35 right before the strike to Yale's negotiator Brian Tunney
"Thank you for doing our organizing for us."
