Filmic representations emphasize different things than textual ones, and i've commented before on the racism of the field of viosin as oposed to other ways of knowing, and we can of course debate whether or not the new testament is actually as anti-semitic as this guy is claiming, and if so why we care and what that means. Urbahn's claim that Gibson is faithfully recreating the bible is ridiculous. But it's also an apology for racism, an imagined textual referent against which interpretation can be ascribed solely to the viewer rather than the producer.
