There's a
dope article in the NYT today about Tricia Rose, whose first book,
Black Noise is one of my favorite books ever. Rose, the biracial child of a working-class family from Co-op City, went to Dalton, then Yale, and wrote her Ph.D. dissertation at Brown. In
Black Noise, she has a really striking anecdote about Mansfield Street, New Haven's Yale-colonized social geography, the policing of the post-urban neighborhood, and the subaltern's use of Boogie Down Productions' "Who Protects Us From You."
