A month-long strike at Ansonia Copper & Brass Co. ended sunday with an 89-38 vote (out of the 153 steelworkers in the union.) While the officials, according to the Register, described the contract as "good and fair," and some workers felt that it was better than the contract they had going into the strike, others were troubled by a health insurance copay increase form $10 to $45.
The register article, meanwhile, contains this gem of a sentence:
"Since the workers started picketing, the company says it was forced to bring in some 30 replacement workers. "
Forced? Did Donald Rumsfeld put a gun to their heads and demand that production continue with replacement workers for the good of the recolonization of Iraq? Am i missing something? Since when are corporations "forced" to bring in scabs?
